Who permits your address?
Each city in the metro sets its own threshold, and the county line matters as much as the city line.
Inside Little Rock
- Single-story accessory buildings under 120 sq ft with no utilities are exempt.
- Anything larger, or wired, needs a permit.
- Setbacks apply either way.
Unincorporated Pulaski County
- Planning & Development handles zoning, subdivision, floodplain and stormwater.
- Building in the Lake Maumelle watershed has its own rules.
Surrounding counties
- Rural Faulkner, Saline and Lonoke counties usually have no county building permit.
- Floodplain permits still apply in mapped areas.
West of Little Rock, check whether you’re in the Lake Maumelle watershed. It’s the city’s drinking water supply, and building there is reviewed more closely than the ground around it.
