What people build around Danville
Danville is the seat of Boyle County, south of Lexington, with farm ground around Perryville and Junction City.
Garages in town
One joint zoning ordinance covers the county and its three cities. We check the setbacks for your lot first.
Acreage shops
Tubular steel is usually the answer for an unfinished shop under sixty feet wide.
Barns
Hay and equipment barns go up across the county. Red iron takes over past eighty feet.
Finished space
Steel truss is the fit here. Drywall attaches to the frame, so there’s no second wall to build.
Permitted commercial work often suits cold-formed steel, with a finished eave standard. See what a steel building costs.
Permitting metal buildings in Danville and Boyle County
Zoning first, then the building permit, and every contractor licensed with the county.
Zoning, then building
- Start with Danville-Boyle County Planning & Zoning. Call (859) 238-1235.
- Accessory buildings over 200 sq ft then need a building permit from the county inspector at 445 W. Main Street. Call (859) 238-1107.
- Starting construction before the permit is issued doubles the permit fee.
Contractors
- No permit is issued until every contractor on the project shows a current Boyle County contractor’s license.
- The license is renewed every year.
- Inside Danville, contractors also need a city business license.
Farmstead exemption
- Claimed by affidavit with the county.
- The farm is registered as agricultural or horticultural with the county PVA and sits on at least ten acres outside city limits.
- The building serves the farm. It isn’t commercial, public, a workplace for ten or more people, or for timber.
The farmstead exemption is a form, not an assumption. Boyle County asks you to sign an affidavit showing the farm is registered with the PVA, sits on at least ten acres outside city limits, and that the building serves the farm. We help you check each point before you claim it.
We also serve Junction City, Perryville, Harrodsburg and Stanford. See Nicholasville, Lexington or all of Kentucky.
