What people build around Lebanon
Lebanon is the seat of Boone County, with farm ground across most of the county and growth spreading in from Whitestown and Zionsville.
Acreage shops
Tubular steel is usually the answer for an unfinished shop under sixty feet wide.
Pole barns & garages
Barns, pole barns and garages all go through the county’s accessory structure permit.
Farm buildings
Equipment storage and hay barns go up on farm ground. Red iron takes over past eighty feet.
Finished space
Steel truss is the fit here. Drywall attaches to the frame, so there’s no second wall to build.
Permitting metal buildings in Lebanon and Boone County
The county caps accessory buildings by count and by size, so the plan starts with what’s already on the property.
Size caps
- In the county’s rural districts, one accessory building tops out at 3,000 sq ft, and all of them together at 4,000.
- In residential districts, two accessory buildings are the limit, together no more than 75% of the house’s footprint.
- Going past a cap takes a variance from the Board of Zoning Appeals.
The permit
- The county’s accessory structure permit covers barns, pole barns and garages, with a site plan, a drainage permit and a driveway permit.
- Starting work without a permit doubles the fee.
- Building something different from what was approved can bring a fine of five times the permit fee.
Farm & engineering
- Under state law, a building used only for agriculture on the farm isn’t built to the building code.
- Occupied buildings are Risk Category II wherever they sit.
- We provide the engineered drawings your permit needs.
Count what’s already there. Boone County’s caps include every accessory building on the property. If an old barn already takes up most of the 4,000 square feet, the new shop has to fit in what’s left, so we start with a list of what’s standing.
We also serve Whitestown, Zionsville, Thorntown, Advance and Jamestown. See the Indianapolis metro or all of Indiana.
