What people build in Prescott Valley
At five thousand feet, the snow load shapes the frame as much as the size does.
Shops & garages
Unfinished and under sixty feet wide, tubular steel is usually the answer, insulated or not.
RV & boat storage
Settle the door before the footprint. Every two feet of eave above twelve adds roughly five percent to the frame.
Barns & hay
Barns and hay storage go up on the acreage around town. Red iron takes over past eighty feet.
Barndominiums
Steel truss is the fit. Drywall attaches to the frame, so there’s no second wall to build.

Permitting metal buildings in Prescott Valley
The town’s design criteria
- Snow is set at 30 psf for both roof and ground, and it isn’t reducible.
- Footings go 18 inches below grade for frost.
- The town’s changes to the model codes are in Chapter 7 of the Town Code.
Outside town limits
- Unincorporated Yavapai County sets snow load by the property’s elevation instead.
- Above 70 psf, an engineer has to design the building.
Living or working in it
- A building people live or work in is Risk Category II wherever it sits.
Prescott Valley doesn’t let the snow load come down. Many places let an engineer reduce the roof snow load for slope or exposure. Here the criteria set 30 psf for roof and ground with no reduction, so a frame priced for another town may not carry over. We design to the town’s number from the start.
We also serve Dewey-Humboldt, Mayer and the acreage east of town. See Prescott & central Arizona or all of Arizona.
