What people build in Fort Bend County
Acreage, farm ground and rural home sites southwest of Houston.
Barns
Hay, equipment and livestock barns. Red iron takes over past eighty feet.
Shops & garages
Unfinished and under sixty feet wide, tubular steel is usually the answer, designed for Gulf Coast wind.
Barndominiums
Steel truss is the fit. Drywall attaches to the frame, so there’s no second wall to build.
Commercial buildings
Outside city limits, commercial projects submit an engineering site plan to the county first.

Permitting metal buildings in Fort Bend County
When you need a permit
- Any new structure of 100 sq ft or more on residential property needs a Residential Development Permit from County Engineering.
- So does work in the 100-year floodplain, regrading, drainage changes, septic systems and water wells.
Applying
- Apply online through MyGovernmentOnline. New structures need an address verification letter from CenterPoint.
- The fee is higher in the floodplain and on unplatted land. Starting before the permit is issued means double fees.

In Fort Bend County, even a country barn needs a permit. Unlike most of rural Texas, the county requires a development permit for any new structure of 100 sq ft or more on residential property, and it costs double if you start first. We build the permit timeline into the delivery schedule.
We also serve Needville, Fulshear, Simonton and Beasley. See the Houston metro or all of Texas.
