What the building had to do

A gym floor needs width with nothing standing in it. This building had to span sixty feet with no interior columns.

Why tubular

Sixty feet of clear span sits at the top of what tubular steel does well, and ladder leg framing is what gets it there. The column and rafter are built as an open truss from the same tube stock, so they carry more span and more load than a solid leg of the same material.

The owner came to us from an ad for tubular buildings, and for an unfinished building at this width it was the right fit.

Compare it with Tumbles. Both are gyms and both are wide open inside, but they use different frames. Tubular reached sixty feet and did it well. At eighty-five feet, Tumbles needed red iron.
