Look & size
- A detached garage can’t be taller than the house, and its siding must be similar to the house’s.
- Setbacks: 40 ft front, 10 ft sides, 30 ft rear, and 5 ft from another structure without a firewall. Shoreland lots have more rules.
The plan set
- Two full-size sets with a site plan, all elevations, materials, dimensions, header sizes, wall bracing and foundation type.
- A plan review deposit, and at least two weeks for review. Electrical and mechanical permits are separate.
On site
- Lot pins must be exposed for the site inspection, and lots not on city sewer may need a current septic certificate.
- Call inspections in at least 24 hours ahead. A final inspection comes before you move anything in.
