Permitting metal buildings in Taos
In the Town of Taos
- To count as accessory, a building must be less than 70% of the house’s heated floor area.
- Zoning review needs a site plan with acequia and watercourse setbacks, four elevations and exterior details meeting the town’s design standards.
In Taos County
- The standard maximum height is 27 feet unless a zone says otherwise.
- Buildings stay 85 feet from water sources, with setbacks measured from watercourses and acequias too.
Permits
- Only one-story sheds of 120 sq ft or less skip the building permit.
- The applicant must hold the state license classification that covers the work, or a homeowner’s permit.
In Taos, the acequia comes first. Setbacks run from ditches and watercourses as well as lot lines, and in town the building must stay under 70% of the house’s heated space. We map both before we size the building.
We also serve El Prado, Ranchos de Taos and Arroyo Seco. See all of New Mexico.
