We supply shops, barndominiums, garages, commercial buildings and more across the Dallas–Fort Worth metro. Our work reaches from the fast-growing edge towns to the ranch land beyond them, and anywhere else you’re building.

City by city

NCTCOG is the North Central Texas Council of Governments. Its recommended amendments are adopted city by city, so the version in force depends on the town.

What people build around Dallas–Fort Worth

New subdivisions, small-town lots and acreage just past the city limits.

Shops & garages

Unfinished and under sixty feet wide, tubular steel is usually the answer, sized to fit the city’s limits.

Barndominiums

Steel truss is the fit. Drywall attaches to the frame, so there’s no second wall to build.

Boat & RV storage

Settle the door before the footprint. Every two feet of eave above twelve adds roughly five percent to the frame.

Commercial buildings

Shops, warehouses and service buildings for a fast-growing region. Red iron carries the wide spans.

Inside the cities

  • State law makes the International Residential and Building Codes the baseline in every city.
  • Many DFW cities add the regional amendments recommended by NCTCOG, so the same code reads the same way across the metro.

Code editions

  • NCTCOG has published amendments for the 2021 codes, and its code committee has approved amendments for the 2024 editions.
  • Each city adopts on its own schedule, so neighboring towns can be on different editions.

Past the city limits

  • Counties permit commercial, public and multifamily buildings, not homes or ordinary shops.
  • Where a city has extended its building code into its extraterritorial jurisdiction, that code controls.

Around DFW, small towns often set the strictest rules for accessory buildings. Size caps, height limits and requirements to match the house vary from one town line to the next. We check the town’s rules before we size the building.

We also serve Denton, McKinney, Midlothian, Forney and the rest of North Texas. See all of Texas.
