Permitting metal buildings in Cody
Who can permit
- An owner can get permits for work on their own single-family home, private garage and accessory buildings, if they do the work themselves.
- Applications go through the city’s Cityworks online portal.
Placement
- The standard side setback is 5 feet, but accessory buildings may sit 3 feet from the side line.
- Residential districts also limit height, use and open space, so the city recommends checking zoning first.
Shops with an apartment
- Accessory dwellings need a lot of at least 7,000 sq ft, and the unit is capped at 800 sq ft or 75% of the house, whichever is less.
- Over 15 feet to the roof’s midpoint, the building must meet the house’s setbacks, and it can’t cover more than 20% of the lot.
In Cody, the owner can pull the permit. If you’re putting up your own garage or shop, the city lets you permit it yourself. We supply code-rated drawings with every building, so your application goes in ready for review.
We also serve Powell, Meeteetse and the rest of Park County. See all of Wyoming.
