What people build in Enterprise
A Wiregrass city with a simple set of accessory rules and a permit that checks flood zones on every building.
Detached garages
At least 5 feet from the property line and 10 feet from the house, shown on a site plan with the permit.
Workshops
List every plumbing and electrical fixture on the application. The owner confirms the building won’t be used as living space.
Storage buildings
The same setbacks apply, and the application asks for the square footage of every existing building on the lot.
Easement lots
Nothing permanent goes in a public right-of-way or easement without City Council approval.
We work in tubular steel, cold-formed steel, steel truss and red iron. See what a steel building costs.
Permitting metal buildings in Enterprise
Enterprise keeps its accessory rules short and runs every application through zoning, site plan and flood review.
Setbacks
- All accessory structures sit at least 5 feet from the property line and 10 feet from the primary structure.
- No private permanent building, fence, wall or other structure goes in a public right-of-way or easement without prior City Council approval.
The application
- A site plan shows the building’s location and every proposed setback, along with the total square footage of existing buildings.
- It lists all plumbing and electrical fixtures, the intended use and a description of all work. The owner confirms the building won’t be used for human habitation.
Codes & review
- Since March 7, 2023, Enterprise has used the 2021 International Building and Residential Codes and the 2020 National Electrical Code.
- Each application gets zoning, site plan and sewer review, and the city checks whether the lot is in a flood zone.
In Enterprise, the flood map comes first. Every accessory structure application is checked against the flood zone before it’s issued. If your lot is in one, flood rules can change how the building has to be set. We’ll look up the flood zone at your address before quoting.
