Permitting metal buildings in Twin Falls
Twin Falls adds a zoning use permit for accessory buildings on top of the building permit, and handles farm buildings through a separate site placement permit.
Permits
- Every accessory structure needs a zoning use permit, which can be processed with the building permit.
- None is needed for a storage-only building under 200 sq ft, one story and under 15 feet, though setbacks still apply.
Placement
- Buildings for parking or vehicle access sit 20 feet from public streets and 10 feet from public alleys.
- No accessory building can sit in an easement, and the owner must move one that’s built in the wrong place.
Farm buildings
- Agricultural buildings are exempt from the building code under state law.
- The city still requires an agricultural exempt site placement permit, with a declaration that the building meets the state’s definition.
In Twin Falls, there are two sign-offs. A shop or garage needs a zoning use permit as well as a building permit, and a barn needs its own site placement permit even though it skips the code. We line up the right paperwork for how the building will be used.
We also serve Kimberly, Filer and the rest of the Magic Valley. See all of Idaho.
