Permitting metal buildings in St. George

St. George sets its own rules through its Unified Development Code, and its Board of Adjustment hears requests to build bigger.

Size & coverage

  • No accessory structure on a residential lot may exceed 1,000 sq ft or cover more than 30% of the rear yard.

Larger buildings

  • The Board of Adjustment can allow an accessory structure over 1,000 sq ft if all accessory structures stay within 30% of the rear yard.

Timing

  • Accessory uses and structures can’t be established before the principal building.

In St. George, big shops go through the board. Anything over 1,000 sq ft needs a Board of Adjustment exception, and residents with large backyards have applied for 30-by-50 shops. We prepare the site plan and coverage numbers the board reviews.

We also serve Prairieville, Gonzales and the rest of the capital region. See all of Louisiana.
