Permitting metal buildings in Lehi
Chapter 26 of the Lehi City Development Code sets setbacks, size, height and design for accessory buildings.
Setbacks by height
- Side and rear setbacks are 2 feet under 16 feet tall, 5 feet from 16 to 24 feet, and 8 feet above 24 feet.
- Those apply only if the building is 6 feet behind or 10 feet beside the house, and 12 feet from a neighbor’s home.
Size & height
- Accessory buildings can cover up to 30% of the rear yard and are one story unless the lot is over 22,000 sq ft.
- None can be taller than the house: 35 feet max in agricultural and R-1-22 zones, 24 feet in most others.
Design & farm buildings
- Materials, roofing and colors must be comparable to or harmonious with the house.
- Barns and machinery sheds used only for agriculture in TH-5, A-5, A-1 and RA-1 zones are principal buildings that follow the zone’s own rules.
In Lehi, height sets the setback. A 15-foot building can sit 2 feet from the line, while a 25-foot one needs 8. We place the building and size its walls together so you keep as much of the yard as possible.
We also serve American Fork, Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain and the rest of north Utah County. See all of Utah.
