Permitting metal buildings in Orem

Section 22-6-8 of the city code sets how tall accessory buildings can be and where they can go in residential zones.

In a required setback

  • An accessory building located in a required setback can be no more than 18 feet tall.

Outside the setbacks

  • Out of the setbacks, the limit is 18 feet or the height of the house, whichever is greater.

Side yards

  • Accessory buildings can go between the house and an interior side line if they cover no more than 15% of the required side setback area.
  • That allowance doesn’t apply to a side yard next to a street.

In Orem, stepping out of the setback buys height. A building inside a required setback stops at 18 feet, but one placed outside the setbacks can match a taller house. We check your lot to see which spot gives the RV door the clearance it needs.

We also serve Vineyard, Lindon and the rest of north Utah County. See all of Utah.
