What people build around Bennett

A growing town with open plains on every side, and plenty of room for a shop.

Acreage shops

Shops, garages and RV storage on rural lots outside town.

Farm buildings

Equipment storage and hay barns on dryland farm ground.

Commercial

Contractor shops and storage near the interstate.

Finished space

Steel truss takes drywall directly, so there’s no wood wall to build inside the steel.

We also work in tubular steel, cold-formed steel and red iron. See what a steel building costs.

Permitting metal buildings in Bennett

The Bennett Building Department permits inside town limits. Outside them, the county you’re in takes over.

Inside Bennett

  • New permits since July 1, 2026 follow the 2024 I-codes, the Colorado Model Electric and Solar Ready Code and the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code
  • Contractors must hold a town license, and accessory structures fall under the Class C residential license
  • Starting work before the permit doubles the permit fees
  • Fire permits and inspections run separately through the Bennett Watkins Fire Protection District. (303) 644-3572

Unincorporated Adams County

  • Permits for accessory buildings over 200 sq ft
  • Contractors must be registered with the county before pulling a permit
  • Residential zones cap accessory buildings, at 900 sq ft in R-1-C

Arapahoe County farm buildings

  • A building used solely to shelter farm implements, products, livestock or poultry can apply for an agricultural exemption
  • The building has to stay in agricultural use for its life, or get a full building permit

Inside town, the code just changed. Bennett moved to the 2024 codes on July 1, 2026, and plans submitted under the older codes that weren’t issued by then have to be updated. We draw to the current edition from the start.
