Anne Arundel County sizes accessory buildings by the house.

Detached garages

An accessory building’s floor area can’t exceed the floor area of the house.

Pole barns

In R1, accessory buildings 8 feet or taller sit 15 feet from the side lines.

Waterfront lots

On waterfront lots, accessory buildings can go in the front yard.

Big shops

The county has opposed variances for buildings several times larger than the house.

We work in tubular steel, cold-formed steel, steel truss and red iron. See what a steel building costs.

Anne Arundel County keeps accessory buildings on the same lot as the house.

Placement

  • So does a building joined by a breezeway under 15 feet.
